The National Hispanic Heritage Month started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon B. Johnson. It became a law on August 17, 1988. President Ronald Reagan expanded it in 1988 to cover 30 days beginning on September 15 and ending on October 15. Many communities across the nation celebrate their history, culture, and contributions to society.
